MOHAMMAD AZHARUDDIN
Mohammad Azharuddin is widely regarded as one of India's greatest cricketers and a former captain of the national team. A native of Hyderabad, he transitioned into a significant political career as a Congress leader and currently serves as a minister in the Telangana government, holding the portfolio for Minority Affairs. During his illustrious sporting career, he represented India in 99 Test matches and 334 One Day Internationals (ODIs). He amassed over 6,000 runs in Tests and more than 9,000 runs in ODIs, scoring 22 Test centuries and 7 ODI centuries. In 1989, he succeeded K. Srikkanth as the captain of the Indian team, eventually leading the side in 47 Tests and 174 ODIs. Under his leadership, India participated in an ODI World Cup and secured an Asia Cup title. After retiring from professional cricket, he became active in politics and was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Moradabad constituency. He later served as the President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee. In recognition of his sporting achievements, the nation honored him with the Arjuna Award, and he was also named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year. His life was the subject of the Bollywood biographical film titled Azhar.
ഇന്ത്യയുടെ എക്കാലത്തെയും മികച്ച ക്രിക്കറ്റ് താരങ്ങളില് ഒരാള്. മുന് ഇന്ത്യന് ക്യാപ്റ്റന്. കോണ്ഗ്രസ് നേതാവ്, മന്ത്രി, മുന് എംപി. ഹൈദരാബാദ് സ്വദേശിയാണ്. ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്കുവേണ്ടി 99 ടെസ്റ്റും 334 ഏകദിനങ്ങളും കളിച്ചു. ടെസ്റ്റില് ആറായിരത്തിലേറെ റണ്ണും ഏകദിനത്തില് ഒന്പതിനായിരത്തിലേറെ റണ്ണും നേടി. ടെസ്റ്റില് 22 ഉം ഏകദിനത്തില് ഏഴും സെഞ്ചുറിയുണ്ട്. കെ.ശ്രീകാന്തിന്റെ പിന്ഗാമിയായി 1989ലാണ് ഇന്ത്യന് ടീമിന്റെ നായകനായത്. 47 ഏകദിനങ്ങളിലും 174 ഏകദിനങ്ങളിലും ടീമിനെ നയിച്ചു. ഒരു ഏകദിന ലോകകപ്പിലും ടീമിനെ നയിച്ചു. അസറുദ്ദീന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തില് ഒരു ഏഷ്യാ കപ്പും ഇന്ത്യ സ്വന്തമാക്കി. കളി അവസാനിപ്പിച്ചശേഷമാണ് രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തില് സജീവമായത്. ഒരു തവണ മൊറാദാബാദില് നിന്ന് ലോക്സഭയിലേയ്ക്ക് തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. പിന്നീട് തെലങ്കാന കോണ്ഗ്രസ് പ്രസിഡന്റായി. നിലവില് തെലങ്കാന മന്ത്രിസഭയില് അംഗമാണ്. ന്യൂനപക്ഷകാര്യ മന്ത്രാലയത്തിന്റെ ചുമതലയാണ്. രാജ്യം അര്ജുന അവാര്ഡ് നല്കി ആദരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഒരു തവണ വിസ്ഡന്റെ ക്രിക്കറ്റര് ഓഫ് ദി ഇയറായും തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. അസറുദ്ദീന്റെ ജീവിതത്തെ ആസ്പദമാക്കി തയ്യാറായിയ ബോളിവുഡ് ചിത്രമാണ് അസര്.
