Shashi Tharoor
An author, politician, and former international civil servant, Shashi Tharoor straddles several worlds of experience. Currently a third-term Lok Sabha MP representing the Thiruvananthapuram constituency and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology and All India Professionals Congress, he has previously served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs and as a Minister of State in the Government of India. He has also served as the Under-Secretary General of United Nations. Tharoor is an award-winning author of works of both fiction as well as non-fiction. He has written hundreds of articles, op-eds, and book reviews in a wide range of international publications including the New York Times and Washington Post. Hugely popular on social media platforms, Tharoor is an excellent orator too. His latest books include Why I am a Hindu, The Paradoxical Prime Minister and The Hindu Way. Tharoor in 2019 received the Sahitya Academy Award for his book 'An Era of Darkness' in a non-fiction category in English language.
2009 മുതൽ തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് നിന്നുള്ള ലോക്സഭാംഗവും മുൻ കേന്ദ്രമന്ത്രിയും മുതിർന്ന കോൺഗ്രസ്സ് നേതാവുമാണ് ശശി തരൂർ. 1959 മാർച്ച് 9 ന് ലണ്ടനിൽ ജനനം. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള മുൻ യു.എൻ. നയതന്ത്രജ്ഞനും രാഷ്ട്രീയപ്രവർത്തകനും പതിനേഴാം ലോകസഭയിലെ എം.പി.യുമാണ്‌ ശശി തരൂർ. ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്രസഭയിൽ വാർത്താവിനിമയവും പബ്ലിക് ഇൻഫർമേഷനും കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുന്ന അണ്ടർ സെക്രട്ടറി ജനറൽ ആയി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്നു. ‘നെഹ്രു - ഇന്ത്യയുടെ കണ്ടുപിടിത്തം’, ‘കേരളം - ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സ്വന്തം നാട് ഇന്ത്യ’ - ‘അർദ്ധരാത്രി മുതൽ അരനൂറ്റാണ്ട്’ തുടങ്ങിയവ പ്രധാന കൃതികൾ. ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് കൊളോണിയൽ ഭരണം ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് ഗുണം ചെയ്തു എന്ന വാദം തള്ളുന്ന ‘ആൻ ഇറ ഓഫ് ഡാർക്ക്നസ്’ എന്ന ഗ്രന്ഥത്തിന് സാഹിത്യ അക്കാഡമി പുരസ്കാരം ലഭിച്ചു. നിലവിൽ എൈക്യരാഷ്ട്ര സഭയിൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ മൂവ്മെന്റിൻ്റെ ഉപദേശക സമിതി അംഗം കൂടിയാണ്.
