The biggest award for stories in Malayalam Mathrubhumi Katha Puraskaram 2019

Malayalam story writing contest held as part of Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters (MBIFL 19) with a prize money of Rs 2 lakh.

A jury led by eminent writer M T Vasudevan Nair will decide the winners.

Best story will get Rs 2 lakh. Runners-up will get Rs 1 lakh while the 3rd prize will be awarded Rs 75,000.

Contest have closed on January 20.

Winners will be announced at the closing ceremony of MBIFL 19. Award winning stories will be published in Mathrubhumi weekly.

FAQ

1. Is there a word limit for submissions?
No. There is no word limit set for submissions.

2. Is there a recommended topic or theme for submissions?
No. The topic and theme for submissions have been kept open.

3. What stories are eligible for consideration?
Stories must be unpublished. All entries must be made available as soft copies. The author may be of any nationality but the story must be in the Malayalam language. The decision of the Administrator of the prize as to whether a work is eligible shall be final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into.

4. Can I submit a story that has been previously published in my own book or personal blog?
No. The stories must be unpublished.

5. Can I send a scanned copy of my handwritten story?
No. Only real soft copies will be accepted for consideration.

6. In what format should be the soft copy be submitted?
Either in RTF (Rich Text Format) format or PageMaker format.

7. Is it mandatory to submit the story in Malayalam?
Yes. As it is a Malayalam short story competition we expect the entries to be submitted in Malayalam.

 

8. Who should make the entry?
Only the author may submit a story that is eligible.Not anyone like a publisher or reader.

9. Is there an individual submission limit?
No. Individuals are free to make as many submissions of eligible material as they wish.

10. Are graphic/comic-based works eligible?
No.

11. What is the age limit for submissions?
The contestant should be between the age of 18 – 30.

12. Why is there an age limit set for the participant?
Through the Kathapuraskaaram contest, we intend to promote young Malayalam writers.

13. What are the prizes?
First prize – ₹ 2,00,000
Second prize – ₹ 1,00,000
Third Prize – ₹ 75,000
Mathrubhumi Illustrated Weekly will carry the award-winning stories in one of their issues in March 2019.
Mathrubhumi Books will publish a collection of the ten longlisted stories in April 2019.
